A Bluegrass Christmas: Darin and Brooke Aldridge Light Up Pleasant City Church

Posted

Shelby, NC (WNN) - From singing on stage at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN, to singing at a small venue close to home, singers Darin and Brooke Aldridge ring in the holiday season with some Christmas classics.

On November 29th, 2025, Pleasant City Church in Shelby, NC, had the opportunity to host Darin and Brooke Aldridge for their Hometown Holiday Concert. Famous for their bluegrass style, the duo kicked off the Christmas season with their band and a special appearance from longtime friend Joe Newberry.

Despite his talent with multiple instruments, Joe Newberry chose to begin with an acapella rendition of "Little Baby in a Manger." His voice filled the room, echoing off the walls with a warmth that moved everyone listening.  Between his songs, he would reminisce about the memories he had made with the Aldridges over the years. He continued to sing a few songs from his album On This Christmas Day (2021). Before he left the stage, he called for Darin and Brooke Aldridge, and they all played "Christmas Time Back Home" to kick off the concert with many classics to follow.

Their fiddler, Marissa Colter, poured her heart into every song, and the rest of the band seemed to follow. Mark Fain on bass, David Rhyne on keyboards, Daniel Norton on dobro, Lynn Williams on drums, and Brandon Rollyson serving as their live sound engineer, ensuring that the entire concert runs smoothly.

One of the most memorable moments of the night came when Brooke Aldridge tossed snowballs into the audience, followed closely by inviting all of the children to come sing on stage with them as they sang "Must Be Santa." To close the show, they ended with an aacapella version of "Silent Night," where Darin and Brooke Aldridge encouraged everyone to join in and sing along with them.

In case you missed them in concert this past Saturday, they will be performing again at The Appalachian Theater of High Country in Boone, NC, on Friday, December 19th, 2025, from 7:30 to 10:30 PM. More information can be found here.
