A Place at the Table: Community Thanksgiving Meals for All

Cherryville, NC (WNN) - As Thanksgiving approaches, kitchens across North Carolina are getting ready to set the table for everyone in the community. This year, several local organizations are offering free Thanksgiving meals to those who need them most.  Serving a reminder that it isn't just about filling our plates, it's about the act of giving and the people we share those moments with. 

Categorized by county, we have compiled a list of places giving out free Thanksgiving meals. 

Gaston County

  • Cherryville - Hosted at the American Legion Hall, Cherryville Area Ministries brings warm meals to those in need. Food is served on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 11 am on November 22.  Located at 215 N Pink St, Cherryville, NC. Read more about the event here.
  • Waco - The Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church is partnered with Community Table to serve meals starting at 4 pm on Saturday, November 22. Located at 235 A W Black St, Cherryville. Read more about the event here. 
  • Gastonia - The Tabernacle Baptist Church is giving away 125 free turkeys and bags of groceries on November 22 at 9:00 am at 519 W 19th Ave, Gastonia. For more information, feel free to contact Angela Lee at 704-718-4414. Read more about the event here.
  • Mount Holly - The Black Forum Foundation of Mt. Holly is giving away free turkey dinners. Pickup is scheduled for Saturday, November 22, from 11 am to 2 pm at the Mount Sinai Church, located at 339 S. Hawthorne Street, Mount Holly, NC. Read more about the event here.

Cleveland County

  • Kingston - Jefferson Park is hosting a Community Table meal served at 4 pm on Saturday, November 22. Located at 915 Buffalo St, Shelby, NC. Read more about the event here.
  • Shelby - Holly Oak Park (located at 809 Holly Oak Rd, Shelby),  Bobby Bell Pavilion (located at 126 W Marion St, Shelby)
  • Kings Mountain - Mt Zion (located at 220 N Watterson St, Kings Mountain) is hosting a Community Table meal served at 4 pm on Saturday, November 22. Read more about the event here. 
  • Lawndale - Burns High School (located at 307 E Stage Coach Trail, Lawndale) is serving a meal with Community Table at 4 pm on Saturday, November 22.  Read more about the event here. 

Other Locations

  • Lincolnton - The Christian Ministries of Lincolnton has an open soup kitchen every day, including Thanksgiving, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. They also have a pantry available on weekdays, as well as running Linc Home Meals for those unable to leave their homes. They are located at 207 S.   • Charlotte - Mecklenburg County Government is distributing 1,000 turkeys and other food items for Thanksgiving meals on Nov 22. from 11 am - 4 pm at Scarborough Community Resource Center at 430 Sitt Street, Charlotte, NC. It is important to note that registration is required. Priority will go to those who recieve SNAP benefits. You can register here and read more about the event here. 
  • Morganton - Thrive Church is hosting a Thrive-By Thanksgiving where everyone receives a free Thanksgiving meal kit that includes a turkey, multiple sides, and extra groceries. This drive-by is happening on November 23 from 3-5 pm.  Located at 2147 S. Sterling St., Morganton, NC. Read more about the event here.
