Cherryville, NC (WNN) - Cherryville native Bobby Dale Reynolds, known to many as Coach Reynolds, will be entering the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s Hall of Fame as part of the 2026 class.

The announcement was made via NCHSAA’s website on March 18, 2026. The Hall of Fame was established in 1988 and honors individuals who have made significant contributions to high school athletics through leadership, service, and achievement. Reynolds will follow his high school coach and mentor, legendary Coach Henry Jones, into the Hall as Cherryville’s second inductee. Coach Jones was inducted in 2020. A private reception for the new inductees will be held at the NCHSAA offices on April 21, 2026. A formal induction will be held for the public on August 15, 2026, at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, NC.

Coach Reynolds was raised in Cherryville, NC, and has spent most of his life on a baseball field either as a player or a coach. He has excelled in both areas and is no stranger to championships or accolades. Bobby has been on a baseball diamond almost since the day he was big enough to hold a bat and has given no indication of stepping aside anytime soon. The NCHSAA included in its announcement that Coach Bobby Dale Reynolds has had one of the most successful high school baseball coaching careers in North Carolina.

Reynolds is a 1982 graduate of Cherryville Junior- Senior High School (now Cherryville High School). He excelled as a three-sport athlete and was a vital part of the 1980 and 1982 NC State 2A Championship baseball teams. Those teams were coached by Henry Jones. During those summers, he helped revive Cherryville Post 100. The 1981 team was the state champions and played in the Southeast Regionals. The 1982 team finished as state runners-up. The 1980 team was coached by former Major Leaguer Tony Cloninger. Then, in 1981 and 1982, Don Saine took over as head coach, and Cloninger assisted. After high school, Reynolds played baseball for the Seahawks at UNC-Wilmington.

Coach Reynolds next began a record-setting coaching career with high school and American Legion teams. First stop was as an assistant to his former high school coach, Henry Jones, at Cherryville Junior-Senior High School for 5 seasons. This time included a 1992 NC State Championship. Next on the journey was a 28-year stint as head coach at East Rutherford High School from 1993 to 2020. His tenure included a record of 572-191, 6 state titles, 15 conference championships, and 9 regional titles. He is currently an assistant coach to his son Drew Regionals, who is following in his father’s footsteps. Reynolds stays busy in the summer months coaching American Legion baseball. 2026 will be his 38th season. He has spent 33 of those years in Cherryville as head coach of Cherryville Post 100, and the other 5 years coaching Gastonia Post 23, achieving a record of 927-434. At Cherryville, he has compiled 837 of those victories, making him the winningest American Legion baseball coach in North Carolina. At the helm of Post 100, he has led teams to 5 state titles, and in 1998 and 2003, his teams were runners-up in the American Legion World Series. There is no doubt Bobby Dale Reynolds has earned a spot in the Hall of Fame.
