Chavis Middle School Softball Has Perfect Season

Posted

Cherryville, NC (WNN)- The Chavis Middle School Wolverines capped off their 2025 undefeated season by winning the Gaston County Championship. Coach Lance Beam’s Wolverines finished the season 10-0.

The County Championship was their 14th, giving them the lead in county titles. They are 14-7 all-time in Championship games. This was the first Championship since 2019 for Chavis; however, they felt that at the beginning of the season, with the return of seven starters, this could be their year.

Any season that ends with an undefeated record is special and memorable. These young ladies are part of a special season with their historical accomplishments. This bodes well for Beam, who is also the Cherryville High School softball coach. He has some incredible players moving up for the next several seasons.

Although five players finished their middle school careers, they will be moving on next year to a historically competitive Lady Ironmen team. Safe to say we will be hearing good things about these young ladies for several more years.

Playoffs and Championship

The Lady Wolverines finished the regular season 8-0 and wasted no time eliminating their competition en route to the Championship. First up was Mount Holly on Tuesday, September 30th. The game was won 10-0 in a mercy rule-shortened five-inning contest. Pitcher Leah Dellinger picked up the win, striking out six batters. Leading the way at the plate were Lilah Spangler with three hits and 3 RBIs, McKinley Ward with two hits and 2 RBIs, Harper Lovelace with two hits and 2 RBIs, Brynlee Capps with two hits and 1 RBI, Lydia Williams added two hits and 1 RBI, Hailey Canipe had one hit and 1 RBI, and Daylee Dalton added one hit.

The Championship game was played on Thursday, October 2nd. It was much the same as the playoff game, also ending after five innings by mercy rule. The Wolverines won this one over Belmont by a score of 11-1. Leah Dellinger was the winning pitcher of this one as well. She was even more dominant on the mound this time around, striking out nine batters.

Offensively, the team was led by the hot bats of Hailey Canipe’s three hits and 5 RBIs, Leah Dellinger helped herself out by collecting two hits and 2 RBIs, Brynlee Capps added two hits and 1 RBI, Harper Lovelace had one hit and 2 RBIs, Lydia Williams had one hit and 1 RBI, and Sophia Willis had one hit.

Congratulations, ladies, and to Coach Beam on an incredible season! One that you will not soon forget. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for each of you.
