Cherryville Begins Paving Academy Street

Other Roadway Projects Completed

Posted

Cherryville, NC (WNN) - On September 2, 2025, the City of Cherryville issued a bid notice for the paving of three roads within the city. Now we’re seeing this project come to completion with the paving of Academy Street set to begin on December 12, 2025.

Powell Bill Funds

In the 2025-2026 budget in the Powell Bill section, the city was allocated $397,350.00 for road improvements and maintenance. While paving is a significant concern in Cherryville, this money is also used for other roadway projects, such as the storm drain pipes installed under Pink and Hampton Street to prevent collapse. Originally, Cherryville had intended to pave eight roads this year, but settled on three.

Those who drive through the industrial portion of Academy Street will be happy to know they will soon be able to stay in one lane instead of swerving. Once completed, the worst section of this road from Mountain Street to Paul H. Beam Road will be repaved.

Cherryville’s Recycling Center has also gained a smoother ride. Black Road, where it is located, finished being repaved earlier this week.

Lastly, on December 11, 2025, West Carroll Street was paved from Sweetree to Westgate Park.

Hopefully, the paving will last, as studies have shown that paving in temperatures below 50 degrees can lead to poor compaction, cracking, and weak bonding.
