Cherryville's New 18.7 Million Budget Coming Up For Approval June 9th

Posted

Cherryville, NC (WNN)—The City of Cherryville's 2025-26 budget will be up for approval at the next City Council meeting on Monday, June 9th, 2025, at 6 PM. The $18,777,275 total budget does not increase taxes or other electric, water, or sewer rates. The lack of increase in these areas is primarily due to the significant property tax revenue increase in Gaston County, which occurred in 2023. The budget is an approximate 17% increase from the 2023-24 actual spending and approximately a 5.5% increase over the 2024-25 budget.

Pay Increases and Benefits

The significant increases are mainly in salaries and benefits, with a 10% pay increase for most employees. Per the budget summary by City Manager Brian Dalton, the increases are needed to bring Cherryville's salaries in line with those of surrounding towns and cities. A 10% increase is expected for health insurance costs as well.

Two new employee positions will be added, including one Fire Department Position and one part-time Recreation Position. Two Police Positions were approved in this year's 2024-25 budget but have yet to be filled.

Roads and Sidewalks

Additionally, eight roads are expected to be paved in the budget. $137,850 is allocated for paving, a $37,850 increase from last year's budget. The same as this year's budget, $80,000 is allocated to street and sidewalk maintenance.

One of the largest single capital expenditures, at $260,000, will be the proposed purchase of a backyard machine, which will enable the electrical department to access and install equipment in backyards, reducing potential damage to the ground.

A budget public hearing will also be conducted at Monday's City Council Meeting starting at 6 PM. Click Here to see the 2025-26 City of Cherryville Proposed Budget.
