Chipotle Opens and Dave's Hot Chicken Construction Continues

Shelby, NC (WNN) - Chipotle Mexican Grill officially opened its doors to hungry customers on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, in Shelby, North Carolina.

Located at 1315 E. Dixon Blvd., the restaurant moved in next door to McAlister's Deli, marking the first tenant in that space for over a year since McAlister's opened.

Known for its customizable burritos, bowls, tacos, and salads, Chipotle offers a fast-casual dining experience with both dine-in and take-out options. This is now the closest Chipotle establishment for Shelby residents compared to its Gastonia and Belmont locations.

After completing four days of training, the restaurant's fully staffed team was ready to take on opening day with confidence. Within just a few hours of opening, the restaurant saw a packed parking lot as customers lined up to try the new location.

And it looks like another restaurant is moving into the area.

Just down the road, construction is underway at the former Popeyes location, which was announced earlier this year as the future home of Dave's Hot Chicken. The Popeyes restaurant, which operated at this location for four years, closed following bankruptcy-related issues.

The addition of Chipotle, coupled with the soon-to-be Dave's Hot Chicken, marks another step in Shelby's growing restaurant scene.
