Former Community Building Is Being Sold By The Crouse Fire Department

Crouse, NC (WNN) - On Friday, April 17, 2026, a Facebook post from the Crouse Community History and Photo Project page claimed that the property on 2322 Boy Scout Road is being sold by the Crouse Volunteer Fire Department. What now stands as the fire department training facility was once the Crouse Piedmont Area Development Association (P.A.D.A.) Community Building.

Originally funded and paid off in the late 1950's through "Bar-B-Que Chicken Suppers" organized by local leaders and volunteers, the building later served as a venue for fundraisers and events supporting the Crouse Volunteer Fire Department. At the time, there was no county tax support for local volunteer fire departments, prompting the community to step in. The post quickly gained traction, drawing reactions from community members reflecting on the building's history and the memories it holds for Crouse.

Following the growing discussion online, Fire Chief David Poovey responded in the comment section of the original post. He stated that the building becomes too costly to maintain and is no longer regularly used, but emphasized that it will not be demolished. Poovey also encouraged community members to visit the fire department in person with any questions.

On Saturday, April 18, the Crouse Fire Department posted that all questions and concerns will be addressed at its upcoming board meeting on Monday, April 27, 2026, at 7 PM, adding that "no questions will be answered over social media." It is unclear whether this statement was a direct response to the online discussion.

Community members are encouraged to attend the meeting to learn more about the future of the Community Building / Fire Department Training Facility.
