Gastonia Police Department Captures Virginia Fugitive

Gaston County (WNN) - Early on the morning of February 26, 2026, the Gastonia Police Department captured fugitive Waldemar Cabrera Veliz. They worked in conjunction with the Gaston County Police and the US Marshals Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force to locate Veliz. The Gastonia Police Department attributes his arrest to strong partnerships with other organizations. 

Veliz was considered dangerous, as his initial warrant from Chesterfield County in Virginia was for Malicious Wounding by Firearm and four counts of Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling. The Gastonia Police have charged him with Extradition, and he is currently in custody at the Gaston County Main Jail.
