Las Vegas, NV (WNN) - The Carolina Hurricanes are NHL Stanley Cup hockey champions for the second time in franchise history.
Carolina defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 3-0 in Game 6 on Sunday night to win the Stanley Cup Final series 4-2 and capture its first championship since 2006.
Taylor Hall, Jackson Blake, and Nikolaj Ehlers scored for the Hurricanes, while goaltender Brandon Bussi recorded a shutout in the title-clinching victory. Captain Jordan Staal was named the winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP.
The championship marks a historic achievement for head coach Rod Brind'Amour, as a former Carolina player and head coach, and brings the Stanley Cup back to North Carolina for the first time in 20 years. Thousands of fans celebrated in the Lenovo Center Arena in Raleigh, NC, after watching the match live-streamed from Las Vegas.
