Ironmen Basketball Teams Have Busy Week Starting 2026

Posted

Cherryville, NC (WNN)- The Ironmen and Lady Ironmen returned to the hard court this week and resumed a busy schedule with two conference games and one non-conference game.

Both Injuries and illness, especially on the girls’ team, hampered their efforts. It was a tough week for the Lady Ironmen as they began the week very short-handed, yet still put forth an all-out effort. The Ironmen continued to show improvement as they began games well, although still coming up a little short in the end.

Lady Ironmen: The Lady Storm had won 10 games in a row before falling by one point to East Rutherford just after Christmas. They got back on track against Cherryville. The Lady Ironmen were missing several starters, and Stuart Cramer took advantage of it early as they raced out to a big lead and never looked back.

They were led by Oshauna Holland, who brought the thunder and lightning, both as she not only recorded a triple-double but also set a school record for points scored in a game. She finished the night with 51 points, 11 steals, 11 rebounds, and 8 assists. 18 of her points came off 6 long field goals from three-point land. Her career night was complemented by Lauren Humphrey, adding 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocks.

Kate Bookout was the leading scorer for Cherryville with 7 points. The loss dropped CHS to 2-9 overall and 0-6 in the conference. Stuart W. Cramer improved to 11-1 and 5-0.

Ironmen: Paxton Pruett started the scoring with a short jumper, but the Storm quickly went on a run. The Ironmen stayed tough, erasing that lead and led 20-19 at the end of the first quarter. The Storm took back the lead early in the second quarter, and the lead went back and forth. Stuart Cramer took a 29-25 lead to the locker room at the half.

Darius Pullen opened the third period with a steal and scored on a layup. It looked as if Cherryville could capture their first conference win, but the Storm used 10 three-point shots to blow open the second half. They would go on to defeat Cherryville 87-54. Cramer was led by Gavin Jordan’s 23 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 steals. Kevin Dye added 16 points, 5 assists, and 3 steals.

Kingston Womack rounded out the attack with 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists. Paxton Pruett was the leading scorer for the Ironmen with 14 points, and Cole Kelly added 12 points. The Storm improved to 6-5 overall and 3-2 in the conference, while Cherryville dropped to 3-8 and 0-6.

Burns at Cherryville, January 7, 2026

Lady Ironmen: Jenny Brown helped Cherryville jump out to an early lead as she began the game with two three-pointers. The Lady Bulldogs answered quickly and used a smothering defense to shut down any offensive threat from the Lady Ironmen.

Jenny Brown finished as the leading scorer for Cherryville with 9 points. Cherryville dropped their record to 2-10 and 0-7. Leading the way for Burns was Emma Wallace, who scored 15 points. Grace Hodge and Laney Williams each added 11 points. The victory raised the Lady Bulldogs to 9-2 and 5-1.

During the break between the two games, Dr. Bud Black was recognized for his 60 years as a coach, teacher, and mentor. Current and former players and coaches demonstrated the love and respect Cherryville holds for “Mr. Basketball” by presenting him with gifts and offering well-wishes.

Ironmen: The first quarter was a very tight and physical game. This carried over into the second quarter as both teams played very aggressive and physical defense.

The Bulldogs went on a run as Cherryville went cold from the field. A close game quickly turned into a 12-point deficit for the Ironmen. Cherryville kept fighting back and cut the lead down to as little as 6 points before trailing by 8 at the half. The third quarter saw Burns begin to pull away, and the fourth was all Burns.
