Cherryville, NC (WNN)- The Cherryville High School wrestling team gave an amazing performance on December 23rd during the Reindeer Rumble hosted by Lincolnton High School. The Ironmen competed against five other schools, Alleghany, Lincolnton, Ashbrook, East Burke, and Kings Mountain, and left with a 2-win, 2-loss, and 1-tie outcome.
This finish is even more remarkable considering Cherryville did not have athletes in many of the weight classes, which results in a forfeit if the other team has a participant. Coach Matt Powers has done an amazing job preparing these young men, and they are producing results on the mat. Below are the Ironmen wins broken down by each school competition.

The first match back will be at Lincolnton High School in a tri-meet on January 6th, 2026, against Lincolnton and Shelby. Two days later, Cherryville will host a home tri-meet taking on Bandys and Maiden on January 8th. There are approximately four weeks remaining in the regular season before postseason tournaments begin. Make plans to come out and support these young men as they continue their outstanding season.
