Cherryville NC, (WNN) - A milestone week for two Ironmen athletes as Kaleb Pendleton picked up his 100th career win as a wrestler, and Steven Wyatt qualified for two events in the upcoming Western Regional swim meet. The wrestling team competed twice last week and will have two events this week as they tune up for the postseason tournaments.
Cherryville hosted a quad meet against Mountain Island Charter, West Lincoln, and Stuart W. Cramer on January 13. As a team, Cherryville finished the night 1-2. Individually, there were some quality wins. Kenny Waters and Mason Powers went 3-0, while Kaleb Pendleton and Maddox Carrigan each finished 2-1.

The latest swim meet was held at Shelby High School on January 8, 2026. Competing in the meet were Cherryville, Shelby, Burns, East Gaston, Lincolnton, and Stuart W. Cramer. Steven Wyatt placed first in three events and qualified for the Western Regionals in two events. Steven’s times were 4:17.95 in the 400 S Freestyle. This time was a season best and earned a first-place finish. In the 50 S freestyle he set a personal best with a time of 26.71. He qualified for regionals in this event as he took a first-place finish. Wyatt’s other regional qualifying time was 4:53.81 in the 500 S Freestyle. The NCHSAA 1A/2A/3A Western Regionals will be held January 31 at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte, NC, and the NCHSAA State Championship meet will be held February 6 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, NC.
