Lady Ironmen Soccer Splits and Ironmen Tennis Wins Two

Posted

The Lady Ironmen soccer team won one and lost one this week, as the Ironmen tennis team won both matches. Mother Nature once again rearranged this week’s schedules, as rain caused several events to change dates. It’s that time of the year when Winter and Spring seem to battle for control, which usually results in some rainy and sometimes stormy days. Spring sports are held outdoors, so any listed dates and start times are subject to change due to wet conditions.

Soccer

Cherryville at Hunter Huss, March 9, 2026: The Lady Ironmen traveled to Gastonia to take on the Lady Huskies. Cherryville came away with a 9-0 non-conference victory. Kate Bookout took 6 shots, scoring 1 goal and 2 points. Mallie Emerson also got in on the scoring, taking 2 shots and scoring 1 goal and 2 points. Burns at Cherryville March 10, 2026: The next night did not end as well for the Lady Ironmen, as they fell to Southern Piedmont 2A/3A/4A second-place Burns by a score of 2-0. Although the result was not a victory, Cherryville held its own against a tough opponent that is 6-0-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the conference. The Lady Bulldogs had all they could handle as they squeaked out a close win. Burns was led by Jordan Walker and Madison Roebuck, each scoring 1 goal and 2 points. Goalkeeper, Mackenzie Currier, gave up 0 goals, made 2 saves, and had one assist and 1 point. The Lady Ironmen (2-5/0-5) had a great effort from Emily Allen. She had a busy night, making 26 saves and allowing 2 goals against. Kate Bookout, Mackenzie Johnson, and Kaydence Ellis each took 1 shot. The next match for Cherryville will be on March 18 in Belmont as they will face off against Stuart W. Cramer.
