Lady Ironmen Softball Win One, Lose One

Cherryville, NC (WNN) - This week, the Lady Ironmen softball team picked up a 14-5 conference win over Lincolnton and lost a conference matchup 15-0 to East Gaston.

The young Cherryville team has experienced some slight growing pains but is holding its own, as it still has a winning record this season. Entering the season, there were many question marks after losing so many experienced players from last season. They are beginning to find the answers. Jenny Brown has a batting average of .486, a slugging percentage of .676, an on-base percentage of .635, 18 hits, scored 20 runs, knocked in 11 RBIs, and stole 9 bases. Landry Beam has a batting average of .441, an on-base percentage of .627, a slugging percentage of .529, 15 hits, scored 15 runs, knocked in 9 RBIs, and stole 15 bases. Kennedy Weathers is batting .441, has a slugging percentage of .735, has an on-base percentage of .596, and has knocked in 15 RBIs, collected 15 hits, and has stolen 8 bases. Cameryn Shirley scored 12 runs. The team will be off for Spring Break and return to action on April 13 at home versus Lincolnton. On April 14, they will again be home versus Burns, then travel to Lawndale to face Burns on April 16.

Cherryville at Lincolnton - March 30, 2026

Jenny Brown pitched 7 innings. She gave up 5 runs (3 earned), struck out 7, allowed 8 hits, and 5 walks. Aerilyn Armstrong went 2 2/3 innings for Lincolnton. She gave up 7 runs (4 earned), 2 hits, struck out 3, and walked 9. Brown and Kennedy Weathers collected 2 hits, and along with Serenity Thomas, knocked in 2 RBIs each. The Lady Ironmen were patient at the plate, drawing 16 walks. Landry Beam had 4 of those. Cherryville was very aggressive on the base pads, stealing 16 bases. Brown, Beam, Weathers, and Shirley had multiple stolen bases. The Lady Wolves turned 2 double plays. Akira Conner had 2 hits, and Aerilyn Armstrong went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs.

Mason Beam (WNN)

Cherryville took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Jenny Brown opened the game with a single, then stole second base. Landry Beam walked, Kate Mulvey hit into a fielder’s choice to score Brown. Beam scored on a passed ball. Kennedy Weathers singled, Mulvey scored. In the bottom of the first, Lincolnton got 2 runs back to cut the score to 3-2. Abigail Campbell walked, Aerilyn Armstrong singled, Torie Lykins walked, as Maelyn Carr reached on an error, Campbell and Armstrong scored. In the top of the second, Cameryn Shirley walked and stole second, and advanced to third on a passed ball. Jenny Brown sacrificed to score for Shirley. The Lady Ironmen stretched the lead to 7-2 in the third. Kennedy Weathers walked and stole second, Jenna Anthony walked, Weathers stole third, and Anthony stole second. Weathers scored on a wild pitch. Maddie Avery reached on an error by the right fielder to score Anthony. Avery advanced to third on a passed ball.

Cameryn Shirley walked, and Avery scored on a passed ball. In the top of the fourth, Kennedy Weathers walked and stole second. Addison Davis walked, Weathers stole third, Maddie Avery walked, and Weathers then scored on a wild pitch. The Lady Wolves had a small rally in the bottom of the sixth as they cut the score to 8-5. Clara Parlier singled, Cooper Buckly singled, Abigail Campbell singled, and Akira Conner singled to score Parlier. Aerilyn Armstrong singled as Buckley and Campbell scored. At the top of the 7th, Cherryville added 6 more runs to reach the final of 14-5. Jenny Brown singled, Landry Beam singled, and A passed balls scored Brown. Kate Mulvey hit a line drive to left field for a double that scored Beam. Kennedy Weathers hit a single, scoring Mulvey. Weathers stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball. Addison Davis walked, courtesy runner, Ella Blake stole second, Serenity Thomas’ line drive single scored Weathers and Blake. A pitch hits Cameryn Shirley, and Jenny Brown walks to score Thomas.

East Gaston at Cherryville - April 2, 2026

Second-place East Gaston had a good night against the Lady Ironmen as they pulled off a 15-0 victory. The win improved the Lady Warriors to 9-2 overall and 8-0 in the conference. Cherryville fell to 7-6 and 3-5. Madi Perrigo gave up 0 runs and struck out 4 over 5 innings pitched. Lily Rymer had 3 hits and 2 RBIs. Molly Kuproski went 2 for 4, scoring 2 runs and knocking in 3 RBIs. Blair Culberson went 2 for 3, scoring 2 runs and 2 RBIs. Perrigo also stole 2 bases. Kennedy Weathers, Landry Beam, and Jenny Brown each had 1 hit. Grace Capps pitched 3 innings, giving up 5 earned runs and throwing 2 strikeouts.

The game was scoreless for 2 ½ innings. A pitch hit Kendra Anderson and stole second. Molly Kuproski reached on an error to score Anderson. Kuproski stole second, Lexi Wheeler doubled to score Kuproski and lead 2-0. In the fourth, Lily Rymer singled to left field, Madi Perrigo singled, Kendra Anderson walked, and Kelsi Norris was hit by a pitch, allowing Rymer to score. Blair Culberson doubled, scoring Anderson. Molly Kuproski hit a 2-run double to score Norris and Culberson to lead 7-0. The game ended on the run rule in the fifth inning as East Gaston went up 15-0 and Cherryville was unable to answer. Lily Rymer tripled to right field, Madi Perrigo singled to score Rymer, courtesy runner Kylasia Britt stole second, Hannah Massey walked, Zoe Culberson singled on a line drive to right field, Kendra Anderson tripled to score Britt, Massey, and Z. Culberson. Blair Culberson walked, Molly Kuproski singled, scoring Anderson. B. Culberson stole third, then scored. Lily Rymer hit a 2-run home run that also scored Kuproski.
