Cherryville, NC (WNN)- Hundreds of costumed preschoolers and kindergartners marched down Main Street on Friday, October 31st, for the annual Little Monsters parade. This Halloween tradition has become a staple of the community's fall celebrations.
The parade, held each year on the Friday closest to Halloween, brought together students from multiple area preschools and Cherryville Elementary School. Cherryville's Event coordinator, Emily Dellinger, estimated more than 400 children participated this year, slightly exceeding initial projections.
"We always tell them to prepare for around 400 or more kids," Dellinger said. "I think we probably had a little bit more than 400 this year."
The children, accompanied by the CHS marching band, processed down Main Street to City Hall before turning around and walking the sidewalks of downtown. Organizers coordinate with the Cherryville Police Department and Fire Department to temporarily close the street for the procession. After the parade ended, the roads opened again, and kids kept trick-or-treating.
When the parade finished, merchants and businesses were set up along the sidewalks of Main Street. They handed out candy, books, and even goldfish crackers to every child who passed by.
Now that this year's event is over, organizers are already planning next year's parade.
"We're really excited for all the kids to have a good time and already looking forward to next year," Dellinger said.
