Read Before You Vote: New Precinct Changes In Gaston County

Posted

Gaston County (WNN) - It's that time of year again! The municipal elections will be held on Tuesday, November 4th, 2025, as residents of Gaston County head to the polls.

These local elections provide local citizens with the opportunity to have a voice in community issues that affect them more closely. While some municipalities vary, some common positions include: Mayor, Council Members, local boards or commissions.

Precinct Changes:

Voters should verify that the location they are accustomed to voting at remains their polling place. When speaking with Gaston County Director of Elections Adam Ragan, he explained that, when examining voter population and turnout, the decision was made to consolidate some precincts. This has resulted in 12 precincts in Gaston County being combined into 6 new precincts. A PDF version of the map can be found here.

For Cherryville, this means precincts 35 and 37 have been combined into one, meaning the city will have one less polling place for this and future election cycles.

Here is a list of surrounding areas participating in the Municipal Election in Gaston County, with a link to their sample ballot (each ward is not shown):

When you show up to the polls, you must have an acceptable photo ID, such as your NC driver's license or passport. Polls will be open from 6:30 AM to 7:30 PM. You can find your polling place linked here.

As for Cherryville, NC, there will be two voting locations:

  • North Cherryville - Second Baptist Church - 201 Houser Street, Cherryville, NC
  • South Cherryville - First Presbyterian Church - 107 West Academy Street, Cherryville, NC

While municipal elections sometimes receive less attention than state or federal races, they can have a significant impact on day-to-day life. Local leaders set policies on:

  • Zoning
  • Local tax rates and public services
  • Policing, fire protection, and emergency services
  • Infrastructure and streets
  • Economic development, jobs, and business incentives

In Gaston County, where a mix of municipalities face different growth pressures, the outcomes may help determine how the county balances growth, community character, and public service demands.

These municipal elections aren't just another ballot date; they are an opportunity for residents to decide who will govern the places they call home.
