Officers Assist Individual in Crisis on Mulberry Street Bridge

Cherryville, NC (WNN) - On June 9, 2026, at approximately 8:30 am, officers with the Cherryville Police Department responded to the Mulberry Street Bridge following reports of an individual positioned on the bridge structure in a manner presenting a safety risk.

Upon arrival, officers located an individual in a life-threatening position on the bridge and immediately initiated efforts to safely secure and remove the subject. Once the individual was brought to a safe location, responders determined the subject was unresponsive, not breathing, and without a detectable pulse. Officers immediately began life-saving measures and continued care until emergency medical personnel arrived and assumed treatment.

The individual was subsequently transported for medical evaluation and appropriate care.

The Cherryville Police Department would like to express its appreciation to the individual who promptly reported the incident, allowing first responders to respond without delay. We also recognize the professionalism, compassion, and teamwork demonstrated by all first responders involved in this incident. Their swift and coordinated actions were critical in providing immediate care to the subject.
