South Mountains Fire Rescue Responds to Traumatic Fall

Connelly Springs, NC – August 30, 2026 — At approximately 4:40 p.m. today, South Mountains Fire Rescue (SMFR) was dispatched to a reported traumatic fall.
 
Upon arrival, emergency personnel evaluated the patient and determined that the injuries required a higher level of medical care. Due to the severity of the patient’s injuries and the need for rapid transport, MedCenter Air was requested to respond to the scene.
 
The patient was subsequently transported by MedCenter Air to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte for further treatment.
 
Several agencies worked together at the scene to provide emergency response, patient care, and operational support. Agencies involved included:
* South Mountains Fire Rescue
* Burke EMS
* Burke Emergency Management
* Burke County Fire Marshal’s Office
* South Mountains State Park Rangers
 
South Mountains Fire Rescue would like to thank all responding agencies for their assistance and coordination during the incident.
