Volunteer Wrestling Coach for Gaston County Charged with Statutory Rape

Gastonia, NC (WNN)- A 21-year-old volunteer wrestling coach at Grier Middle School was arrested on Monday, Jan. 19, 2026.

Gaston County Police arrested Jashon Jefferies and charged him with two counts of statutory rape of a child less than 15, one count of statutory sex offense with a minor, and two counts of a sexual act with a student.

Details of the Allegations

The incident happened in December 2025. Officials haven't said if any events took place at the school. Police are looking through Jefferies' phone for evidence.

Employment and Background Check Procedures

Gaston County Schools says Jefferies served as a volunteer coach from Oct. 3 to Dec. 6, 2025, when the wrestling season ended. He was never employed by the district.

Ongoing Investigation

 Currently, Jefferies is being held in the Gaston County Jail without bond. He is due back in court on Feb. 10.
