Cherryville Prepares for Snowmageddon: Message to Residents

Here's What You Should Know

Posted

Cherryville, NC (WNN) - The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Cherryville as of Friday, January 30, 2026. City officials are taking steps to prepare for the anticipated snowstorm.

Cherryville Takes Measure

Public Works Director Chris King shared the city's plans. The department has plow trucks ready and will use a skid steer to clear snow from Main Street. Since the snowstorm is expected to bring light, powdery snow, salt will only be used if necessary.

King stated that the immediate concern is ensuring safe, uninterrupted operations. "We ask that if you do not need to be out, please stay at home," he said.

Residents are also asked to avoid parking on streets, like Main Street, so crews can safely remove snow and keep roads clear.

Road conditions will be monitored by King throughout the storm, and snow removal will begin once enough accumulation occurs, with main roads cleared first before crews move into neighborhoods and side streets.

Latest Forecast as of 2 pm on Friday, January 30, 2026

After the last 24 hours, snow totals went up from 3-6 inches to 4-7 inches of snowfall on Saturday. Here's what we know:

  • Snow is expected to begin in the Cherryville area after midnight on Friday. Precipitation is forecast to pick up around 4 am Saturday, with the storm system moving toward the East Coast Saturday night. No snow is predicted for Sunday.
  • The snow will be powdery due to low moisture and less water per inch of snow. This is ideal for sledding, skiing, or snowboarding conditions. Not so much for snowballs, since the snow would not be sticky enough.
  • Not everyone will see the same amount of snow. While the region is expected to receive 4-7 inches, the actual accumulation can vary from place to place. For example, someone in Cherryville may not get the same amount as someone in Gastonia. This is because snow can fall in bands, resulting in heavier accumulation in some areas. That said, snow is expected everywhere. It's just a matter of how much will accumulate on the ground in your area.
