Shelby, NC (WNN) - At around 7:00 AM on Sunday, October 18, 2026, Dover Baptist Church, located at 1501 Polkville Rd, Shelby, NC 28150, caught fire. The blaze has resulted in a near-total loss of the building.
According to the church's pastor, Jerry Reed, the fire is believed to have started when the church's heating unit kicked on this morning. However, this is unconfirmed, as the investigation is still ongoing, but foul play has been ruled out.
Members of the congregation were gathered outside the church, examining the damage, and asked for as much prayer as possible at this time. They are also organizing a way to donate or support the church at this time, so check back for updates on how you can help this local church in their time of need.
