It’s Showtime! Belmont Drive-In Brings Beetlejuice Back for a Spooky Double Feature.

Posted

Belmont, NC - Say it once, say it twice, third time’s the charm! Beetlejuice is back on the big screen! This weekend, the Belmont Drive-In is conjuring movie magic and a dash of the supernatural with a Beetlejuice double feature. For two nights only, fans can relive Tim Burton’s spooky spectacle under the stars and see Michael Keaton’s ghost with the most on the big screen.

When it comes to picking the perfect films for spooky season, co-owner Melinda Pentecost keeps it all in the family (literally). “We try to play a kid-friendly feature first because my parents always strived to be an affordable family entertainment center,” Melinda says. “We’re keeping their dream alive by keeping the drive-in going as just that!”

The Belmont Drive-In has become a local haunt for the month of October. A place where families pile into their cars with blankets, concession snacks, and that nostalgic thrill of watching a movie beneath the night sky. In an era where many drive-ins have gone the way of the ghosts (farewell to the beloved Kings Mountain Hounds Drive-In), Melinda and her family continue to fight the good fight, which is to keep the spirit of the drive-in alive, one double feature at a time.

Don’t let the family-friendly atmosphere trick you; the Belmont crew knows how to turn up the terror, too. Since Halloween lands on a Friday this year, the drive-in will crank up the chills with some cult classics like John Carpenter’s Halloween (1978) and Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984). “We made it a fright night for the big kids,” Melinda says, noting that most of the little ones will be out trick-or-treating. To top it off, the drive-in is planning a car decorating contest on Halloween night.

Of course, part of the Belmont Drive-In’s charm is its old-school vibe. The theater keeps it classic. It’s a cash-only establishment  (no ATM on site, which is scary in its own right). Admission is $25 per carload for a double feature, with no limit on how many souls you can fit inside. Just try not to bring your own snacks. Outside food and drinks are to be kept..you guessed it…outside the establishment. The drive-in’s concession stand is what keeps the projectors running. “Most people don’t realize that most of the ticket money goes to the film companies,” Melinda explains that the “snack bar sales are what pay the bills and keep the drive-in operational.”

So, if you’re looking for a weekend filled with laughs, frights, and a little bit of the afterlife’s finest chaos, grab your popcorn, pile in your hearse (umm we mean car), and head to the Belmont Drive-In. Because, as Lydia Deetz would say, if you, too, are “strange and unusual,” this weekend’s double feature is definitely for you.
