Cherryville, NC (WNN) – Construction is officially underway on Cherryville's long-awaited Waffle House restaurant, bringing the popular 24-hour dining chain one step closer to opening its doors.
Construction crews were seen Tuesday, October 20th, 2026 demolishing existing structures at 109 Bud Black Road, located beside Walmart near the intersection of Highway 150.
According to company officials, construction is expected to take approximately 90 days, putting the project on track for completion in January 2027, weather and construction schedules permitting. An official opening date has not been announced.
The new restaurant will contain approximately 1,840 square feet and is expected to create additional employment opportunities for the Cherryville area. Based on typical Waffle House staffing levels, the location could employ approximately 20 to 30 people, including servers, cooks, and management. An official employment figure has not been announced.
Access to the new Waffle House will be available from Highway 150 and Bud Black Road.
Wise Electric Control Inc. and Wise Real Estate Inc. played an instrumental role in bringing Waffle House to Cherryville, an effort that began approximately 15 years ago.
"We've been working on Waffle House for about 15 years, getting them to Cherryville," said Rusty Wise, President of both companies. "They really liked that corner lot, but a lot of trees were hiding it from across the street. I took care of that quickly."
Waffle House purchased the property from Wise Electric Control Inc. in July 2025. The Cherryville City Council subsequently approved annexation of the property in September 2025.
Since WNN first announced the restaurant last year, social media has been buzzing with excitement as area residents have expressed enthusiasm about having a Waffle House in Cherryville.
"I love me some Waffle House," one social media user commented, reflecting the excitement surrounding the restaurant's arrival.
The restaurant will offer its familiar menu of waffles, eggs, hash browns, burgers, and other favorites. Waffle House restaurants traditionally operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
