Cherryville, NC (WNN) - On Sunday, June 28, 2026, rumors began circulating about a potential fentanyl exposure at the Cherryville Walmart. According to Erin Beard, her husband encountered a strange white substance on the pinpad while at the self-checkout. Her husband believed this was fentanyl. She claims that after touching it, her husband began experiencing physical symptoms before making it out the door. He arrived at his destination in Lincolnton before EMS, and the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office was contacted.
According to Beard, the sheriffs determined that her husband was not under the influence of fentanyl and instead was having a panic attack due to the belief he had touched the drug. Beard then claimed the Cherryville Police Department had gotten a positive ID on the substance as fentanyl. However, according to a press release from Cherryville Police Chief Brandon Hunsucker, this statement is false, and the substance was identified as flour. Read the full press release below.
