Casar, NC (WNN) - According to a press release by the Cleveland County Sheriff's Department on Friday, October 17th, 2025, fires were intentionally set at two different locations in Casar, NC. The fires are believed to have been set between 9:00 and 10:00 PM at Tabernacle Baptist Church and Calvary's Cross Baptist Church. After locals reported the fires, first responders from local fire departments, the Cleveland County Fire Marshal's office, and the Sheriff's Office all responded.
Both churches sustained minor damage from the flames before being put out by local citizens, according to the press release. Tabernacle Baptist is located on Corinth Church Road near the center of Casar. The ramp and the side of the building connected to the ramp had damage.
Calvary Cross Baptist Church is at the corner of Mount Zion Church Road and Highway 226, further out of town than Tabernacle. It has sustained heavier damage, with a large part of the siding burned, and damage to the roof above where the fire originated.
